Midlands golfers competed at Montrose and Burntisland

ON THURSDAY, February 28, the meeting of the Midlands Golfers’ Alliance took place at the Montrose Caledonia Golf Club.

The golfers enjoyed fine weather after a delayed start due to some early morning frost.

The scoring was excellent and the top scratch score was by the local assistant professional, G. Brown, who carded a great 65.

The handicap section was won by S. Hills, Monifieth, with a net 66 playing off a handicap of eight.

The leading scratch scores were as follows : 1, G. Brown, Montrose (AP), 65; 2, R Stewart, Tulliallan, 68; 3, N. Anderson, Monifieth, 68.

The leading handicap scores were: 1, S. Hills, Monifeith, 66 (8); 2, J. Gilchrist, Dunnikier Park, 67 (6); 3, G. Pendrich, Downfield, 67 (10).

The qualifiers for the JTC Kitchen Express Midland Golfers Alliance Championship in April at Crieff are S. Hills; R. McDonald; W. McColl; and M. Fraser.

The qualifiers for the JTC Kitchen Express McQueen Shield at Crieff in April are G. Pendrich; C. Westland; D. Vicary; G. Wilkie.

On Thursday, March 7, the meeting of the Midland Golfers’ Alliance was held at the Eddie Sherry Pro Am at Burntisland Golf House Club, Fife.

On a cold, wet, dreich day, it was local golfers who dominated the prizes.

Local professional Paul Wytrazek shared the scratch prize with Gary Tough, Edzell (+1) with fine scores of two over par 70’s.

Gary also led his team of John Gilchrist, Dunnikier Park (6); Archie Burton; Dunnikier Park (3); and Dougal Spaven, Pitlochry (8) to a three shot victory in the team prize.

The leading scratch scores were as follows: 72 - P. Wytrazek, Burntisland, (P); G. Tough, Edzell, (+1).

73 - R. Stewart, Tulliallan, (1).

74 - G. Finlay, Ballumbie Castle, (+1); N. Anderson, Monifieth, (scr).

The leading team scores were: 129 - G. Tough Edzell (+1), J. Gilchrist Dunnikier Park (6), A. Burton Dunnikier Park (3), D. Spaven Pitlochry (8).

132 - C. Armstrong Burntisland (AP), D. West Burntisland (3), A. Maxwell Burntisland (6), J. Edmiston Burntisland (14).

133 - P. Wytrazek Burntisland (P), G. Muir Burntisland (5), H. Haldane Burntisland (9), B. White Burntisland (8).

The next meeting of the Midlands Alliance takes place on Thursday, March 21, at Brechin, starting at 8.30 a.m.
