Olympic fever comes to Brechin care home

On Saturday August 4, Olympic fever hit The Glade in Brechin as they held the Glade Olympics or, as they called it, ‘Brechin 2012’.

It was a fantastic success, with nearly all of the residents participating, with some even getting gold medals for their efforts.

The event involved a variety of sports including, archery, shot-put, discus and croquet.

Midway through the day there was a break for tea and cake, which was well received, many residents thought this could be a welcome addition to real Olympics.

Individual event Gold medals went to:-

Margaret Shand for Discus.Margaret Crowe & Maureen Reith for Shot-Putt.

Linny Thom for Archery.

Jeannie Calder for Croquet.

Combined medals for best performance across all sports went to:-

Bronze- Lizzie Tosh.

Silver- Jeannie Calder.

Gold- Jean Burns.

Chris Curnin, said: “We would like to thank Myrtle Fisher who presented the medals.

“The London Olympics has been an inspiration to all of us, from 20 to 99 years old, we have watch hours and hours of coverage on TV, and had numerous practice sessions for our own events.

“We have decided to make it an annual event, it will be know as The Glade sports for all day.”
