BRECHIN Pirates’ Micros, p4/5, p6/7 and S1/2 squads welcomed the Wasps to their home ground on Sunday, February 19.
For the Micros, eight payers - James May, Elizabeth May, Peter McLaren, Gregor Pert, Ailsa Arbuthnott, Leon Reynolds, Blakey Spy and a new member Guy O’Connell – were in attendance.
Again, as a team, they gave a great performance, with spirited runs from Gregor, Guy, Libby and James to all score tries and steal tags from the opposition.
Ailsa, Blakey and Peter were great at driving forward but just missed out on reaching the try line but showed they have great determination.
Coach Dianne Morland would like to thank Mark Arbuthnott for assisting with the micros during the match.
With only three P4/5 players available - Aaron Murray, Rachel Johnstone and Alix Morland - it was decided to merge both Pirates and Wasps teams to allow all players to get some much needed match play.
All the kids played with great enthusiasm and showed off what they had been practising in training: ball handling, tackling and team play.
Play flowed freely between the teams, with some impressive tries being scored by both teams.
With honours being even at the end it turned out to be a great training match.
Many thanks go to the Wasps players and coaches who provided lots of encouragement and the game coach.
The P6/7s also had low numbers due to it being a holiday weekend, so it was agreed to play a mixed players match with two players from the Brechin pirates joining in on both sides.
It was an end-to -nd game with well-worked tries from both sides and a draw was a fair result.
Well done to the ref who kept the game flowing but also supplied good instructions to the kids.
The S1/2s, which is currently a combined team made up of Brechin and Arbroath players, had a spirited run out. However, they were outplayed by the Wasps.
