A Brechin teen is celebrating success after she became Scottish Champion in her age group at the Scottish Youth Climbing championships.
Rebekah Drummond, who is also a GB team member for climbing, was participating in the ages 16 to 17 category in the climbing championship, which were held at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho, near Edinburgh.
A total of 71 youngsters took part, putting up impressive performances on the 25-metre high climbing wall.
Rebekah was up against ex-GB team member Nikki Addison, from Inverness, and Sophie Fitchett. There was little between the girls, although Rebekah dominated in the final to take first place, winning the title of Scottish Champion in the process.
The climbing championship is an open competition, and there was strong representation from south of the border. They gave the local Scottish climbers a good competition with many podium places being hotly contested.
All the podium places received certificates and trophies and the Scottish Champions received additional Scottish Champion’s trophies. The results were as follows:-
Ages eight to nine: boys - 1, Louis Langland, Inverness; 2, Lachie Cargill, Aberdeen: girls - 1, Niamh Alldred, Bo’ness; 2, Katie Moore, Haddington.
Ages 10 to 11: boys - Mathew Fall, Edinburgh; 2, Tom Dumble, Durham: girls - 1, Lisa Kean, Edinburgh; 2, Robin Casey, Yorkshire.
Ages 12 to 13: boys - 1, Alex Norton, Leicester; 2, David Miedzybrodzki, Edinburgh: girls - 1, Gwyneth Uttley, Bristol; 2, Kitty Morrison, Yorkshire.
Ages 14 to 15: boys - 1, William Bosi, Edinburgh; 2, Alexander Oats, Hereford: girls - 1, Rebecca Kinghorn, Peterhead; 2, Hannah Slaney, Bristol.
Ages 16 to 17: boys - 1, Calum Cunningham, Ullapool; 2, Scott Donaldson, Peterhead: girls - 1, Rebekah Drummond, Brechin; 2, Nikki Addison, Inverness.
Ages 18 to 19: boys - 1, Scott Keir, Banchory: girls - 1, Christie Macleod, Kilearn; 2, Kate Wilson, Edinburgh.
