Brechin Golf Club held their Men’s Open on Saturday, May 25, and the glorious weather saw a full field take part in the event.

Members of the club played a competition scratch score of 72, whereas those golfers who are not members played a competition scratch score of 73.

The scratch winner on the day was S. Grant from Downfield, who hit a score of 69.

R Fyfe from Brechin was named handicap winner after he earned an overall score of 77 - 12 =65.

The full results from the Brechin Golf Club’s men’s open were as follows (player name is followed by club and then score on the day).

Division one results - 1, P. Cunningham (Downfield) 74 - 2 =72; 2, R. Archibald (Ballumbie ) 78 - 5 =73; 3, G. Tough (Edzell) 72 + 1 =73; 4, S. McIntosh (Brechin) 76 - 3 =73.

Division two - 1,J Young (Montrose Mercantile 75 - 8 =67; 2, S. Dye (Brechin) 80 - 12 =68; 3, G. Crozier Brechin) 77 - 6 =71; 4, K. Hunter Brechin) 80 - 9 =71.

Division three - 1, C. Aitken (Brechin) 88 - 18 =70 ; 2, A. Murray (Brechin) 86 - 14 =72 ; 3, D. Sparks (Brechin) 86 - 13 =73; 4, J. Dalgarno (Brechin 88 - 15 =73)

A spokesperson for the club commented: “Congratulations to our oldest member Les Skelton who at the grand age of 89 completed his 49th consecutive Brechin Golf Club Mens Open.”

The club also offered their congratulations to Ross Dallas, Kirriemuir who, along with being one of the youngest visitors to the open, had a hole in one at the fifth hole.

The spokesperson added: “We would like to thank all those who played and were kind enough to compliment our greenkeeping staff on the condition of the course.”
