After yet another disappointing result Ryan Watson and his family have made the decision to split with the Appleyard/Macadam race team.
Father Keith stated that it had been a tough decision to part company at this late stage of the race season, but a series of mechanical issues with the Seel engine bike had attributed to several poor results for Ryan this season, and had destroyed his hopes of becoming British 125GP Champion.
Ryan explained that he still loved racing bikes but had lost confidence in the Appleyard/Macadam prepared bike, and would prove he could get back on the podium again with his new Moto3 bike and the newly formed Brechin based race team – Watson Work Racing.
The Moto3, four- stroke machines have been introduced into the Monster Energy Motostar British Championship class this year as a replacement class for the current two- stroke 125cc bikes, following this change at world championship level.
Keith explained the family had decided to revert back to being an independent race team and hopes to replicate the same success Ryan saw on his 80cc bike when he became British champion.
And he expressed that he felt much of Ryan’s success had to be attributed to the hard work, knowledge and skills of family friend Gordon Work who has supported Ryan over the last few years and has committed to coaching Ryan on the Moto3.
Keith and Ryan were also pleased to announce that Ryan had been chosen from a large number of applicants to join the Selection Event of the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup which will take place in Spain next month.
Ryan attended the event last year, making it to the final round and narrowly missed out on the opportunity to race in the Red Bull Rookie Cup, which runs alongside the Moto GP across Europe.
Keith wished to express his thanks to family and friends who have supported them this year and placed an appeal to the local community and businesses to assist Watson Work Racing and Ryan to establish a race identity by providing services to set up a website, graphics design and much needed sponsorship.
