Second half pasting for injury-hit Stables

Stables 0, Mearns United 6 - Stables played host to last season's champions Mearns United in this league encounter.

Mearns had the better start, forcing a couple of corners in the opening minutes. They had to wait until the 15th minute though to open the scoring, an unchallenged header in the middle of the box.

Stables battled back for the rest of the half, and played some good football. Barry Douglas replaced the injured Craig Low on 25 minutes. Everything seemed to be under control for the home side and it was surely only a matter of time before they got an equaliser. Mearns though had other ideas and survived till half time with their slender lead intact.

The Brechin side's problems were only just starting though. Keeper Bruce Ritchie came off injured at half time, with centre half Potter replacing him between the sticks. Andy Reid filled the void in defence. Debut full back Craig Lockhart also had to hobble off at half time being replaced by fellow new boy Marc Reid.

Two quick fire goals from Mearns knocked the stuffing out of the home side though, and another three would follow before the full time whistle. Not a good start to 2007 for the Stables side, but the fight goes on and they now face Northern Vaults this Sunday, again in Brechin. All players to meet at the park for 10am. Training on Thursday at the park will start at 6.30 pm.

Stables: B. Ritchie (A. Reid), G. Fleming, C. Lockhart (M. Reid), M. Strachan, S. Potter, C. Low (B. Douglas), F. Smith, I. Ingram, G. Southam, C. Ross, C. Robertson.
