Brechin Bolag AFC 6 Victoria 0 - The Bolag recorded a superb win on Sunday as they discovered the joy of six against a team who defeated them in a league game not long ago.
The Brechiners now find themselves in the semi-final of the Forfar Roof Truss Trophy, and a season threatening to go off the rails, is suddenly back on track with a League Cup final against Strathmore confirmed for April 15 at Station Park.
The Bolag went for the jugular from the off and after a few near misses hit the Forfar side with two goals in two minutes. The first came in 17 minutes when a corner was headed out only for Ryan McIntosh to volley the ball high into the net leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.
Moments later Craig Laing burst forward and passed to Liam Middleton who drew the keeper and then slotted the ball past him for another fine goal.
The Victoria tried to muscle their way back into the game but the Bolag were having none of it and when Barry McDonald's long ball found Blair McCombie, the striker looked up and shot home from 25 yards with the away side looking and falling out with themselves over who has to blame.
The Bolag should have been more than three up at the break after passing up opportunities to add to their lead.
The visitors improved in the second half but Trevor Clark and the defence in front of him were having none of it and in 65 minutes it was game over when Michael Simms cut inside from out left and curled another fine effort into the back of the net.
Ernie Clark's run and shot produced the save of the match and just when the game looked likely to finish at 4-0, sub Chris Wallace bagged a late double, first with a similar effort to Simms and the second with a close range shot.
So a second final is in sight for the Bolag who face the winners of the Rafters versus West Port Bar quarter final in the semi finals. This week, however, the club does not have a match as other clubs catch up fixture wise with the season drawing to a close at the end of April.
