Southam's stunner wins it for Stables
Stables 1, Bervie 0 - Stables recorded a single goal victory when they entertained Bervie in a league encounter on Sunday.
Bervie proved to be stuffy opponents though. The first half came and went with neither side having any clear cut chances of note. Conditions underfoot were never going to promote any decent football, but Stables plugged away looking for a breakthrough.
Fleming, Robertson, Reid and Renilson were never really under much threat at the back, managing to thwart any chances for the Bervie attack.
The midfield of Ingram, Garnes, Southam and Smith were having a good battle in the middle against their opposite numbers, but were finding it hard to get the ball up to strikers Ross and McIntosh.
Fraser Smith made way for Derek Forbes on 65 minutes allowing Craig Robertson to push up into midfield, five minutes later skipper Clark Renilson took the ball out of defence, playing a superb pass out to Gary Southam. Southam sped past the Bervie left back and then chipped the keeper from the edge of the box to score his second goal of the season.
Lee Elder replaced Jordan McIntosh with ten minutes to go, but their would be no more goals to come. Stables keeper Bruce Ritchie was at full stretch to save a goal bound effort with only minutes to go to secure the three points for the home side.
Stables will now take on Mearns United in the Piggins Cup Final on March 11. Details of the venue and kick off time shall appear in next weeks Brechin Advertiser.
