Stables defeat a 'cruel blow' admits manager

Stables 1, Northern Vaults 4 - Stables were on league duty last Sunday playing host to Northern Vaults.

The visitors played with the wind behind them in the first half and had the brighter start of the two sides.

With twenty minutes on the clock from what looked like an offside position, Vaults opened the scoring.

Stables came back into the game starting to play some decent football but the underfoot conditions made this more difficult as the game went on.

Twenty minutes later from a corner kick a Vaults players snuck in at the back post unmarked to score his team's second.

With the wind behind them in the second half Stables had the upper hand but found the Vaults defence in fine form.

On the 50th minute Barry Douglas replaced Michael Strachan.

Ten minutes later last season's equal top goal scorer Gary Southam fired in a loose ball from close range to score his first of the season.

Marc Reid was then brought on replacing Fraser Smith on the right wing.

Two minutes later Vaults scored their third goal of the game after a good counter attacking move. On the 88th minute Craig Low replaced man of the match Stuart Potter.

Vaults added a fourth after another good counter attack on the 90th minute.

Stables: B. Ritchie, G. Fleming, D. Forbes, S. Potter (C. Low), C. Renilson, M. Strachan (B. Douglas), F. Smith (M. Reid), C. Lockhart, M. Garnes, G. Southam, C. Robertson. Subs: G. Bruce and I. Ingram both unused.

Stables Manager Graham Bruce said:"Today's result was a cruel blow, no disrespect to Vaults who are a very fast, young side but these are games that we should be winning. All credit to Vaults though, they deserved the win."

Stables have a free week this Sunday. They then take on Black Abbot on January 28 in a Matrix Cup 1st round tie in Montrose. Players to meet at Stables car park for 9.30am as it will be a 10.30am kick off.
