STABLES FAIL TO IMPRESS IN DERBY WIN

Red Lion 1, Stables 3 - Stables travelled to Balwyllo on Sunday to take on fellow Brechiners Red Lion.

Stables got off to a flyer when Fraser Smith pounced on a mistake by the Lion rearguard to slot in his first of the season after only 30 seconds.

Stables increased their lead on 25 minutes when Smith played the ball into the path of skipper Clark Renilson who steadied himself before unleashing an unstoppable drive from all of 35 yards.

Five minutes later Andy Reid had to go off injured, allowing Brady Thomson to make his long awaited debut.

On 40 minutes after a bit of a scramble in the Lion box Thomson got himself on the scoresheet with a tap in from close range.

Stables were playing into the wind in the second half, and failed to increase their lead. Numerous chances were squandered by the visitors.

With 10 minutes to go Lion pulled a goal back, and it would have been a lot closer at the end if it had not been for Bruce Ritchie in the Stables goal.

So another three points for the Stables, but a poor performance overall with none of the guts shown the previous week in the cup final.

Stables will be up in Inverbervie this week for the quarter final of the Review cup. Players should meet at the Stables car park for 9:30am as it will be a 10:30am kick off.

Stables: B. Ritchie, C. Low (S. Potter), D. Forbes, M. Strachan, A. Reid (B. Thomson), C. Renilson, G. Fleming, B. Douglas, J. McIntosh (G. Bruce), F. Smith, C. Robertson.
