Vics appoint new management team

BRECHIN Vics have been dealt a huge blow following the resignation of their management team, who, with a great deal of effort and hard work, have managed to lift the club of the bottom rung of Tayside Junior football for the first time in a number of years.

Chris Simpson and Alan Millar highlighted "work and family commitments" as the reasons behind their decision.

The club wasted no time in appointing a successor, with experience of football in the junior game and on the other side of the world.

Vics' spokesman Brian Eaton, said: "The committee received a real bombshell when the management team of Chris Simpson and Alan Millar resigned from their posts.

"The reason for their resignation was work and family commitments, which prevented them from giving the job their full attention.

"Whilst very disappointed to lose Chris and Alan the club fully respect their decision and wish them both well for the future. The parting of the ways is an amicable one.

"The committee would like to thank them both for their efforts and, although results fell short of their expectations, the improvements they made both on and off the field were there for all to see."

Brechin Vics went on to announce that Derek Lawson will take care of all team matters with immediate effect.

"Derek has only just joined the club following his return from Australia, where he was coach of Perth-based North Beach for three years," continued Brian Eaton.

"Derek has a wealth of junior football experience playing with Arbroath Vics before he left for Australia.

"He is very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead and will be looking to add to the squad and coaching staff in the near future.

"Clive Massie will be retaining his position as player/coach."
