Viewfield encounter an easy start for returning goalie
AFC Viewfield 1, Brechin Bolag AFC 4 - The Bolag had another good win on Sunday when they travelled to Arbroath and saw off the challenge of AFC Viewfield in a league encounter.
With brother Euan calling off, Trevor Clark ended his 18 months out by taking the goalkeeper's jersey and had a very quiet return to action.
The Brechiners began in superb fashion with Alan Wilson's pass down the right hand side taken on at pace by Craig Laing, who cut back to Ernie Clark to lash the Bolag into the lead within two minutes.
In seven minutes following a couple of near things Gordon McFarlane launched a customary long throw-in and Ryan McIntosh rose to head the ball home to make it two-nil.
When Barry Forbes took a pass from McDonald and fired in goal number three it looked like a case of how many would the Bolag score but, as can happen, they eased up a bit although continued to dominate proceedings.
Into the second half and the game was getting a bit niggly with a few late challenges going in from both sides but, for once, the referee did not want to dish out cards like confetti. He was definitely old school and just let things go unpunished until awarding a penalty to Viewfield in 72 minutes for a foul by Forbes. This gave the home side their one and only shot at goal and they scored.
This rattled the Bolag for a wee spell until a well-worked goal finished the home side off in 82 minutes. Ryan McIntosh played a ball up the line to Barry Forbes, he played it back to sub Liam Middleton who, in turn, rolled it into Craig Laing's path and he shot the ball high past the helpless Viewfield keeper to finish the scoring.
This week the Bolag have a home league match against Kirrie side Woodville who, on Sunday, became the first side to defeat FC Porty in a league encounter for about three seasons with a stunning five-three victory. The game kicks off at 11am, players meeting at 10am. Training is at the Leisure Centre indoors on Thursday at 5pm.
A spokesman said: "On behalf of the club I would like to thank Mr and Mrs David Lindsay of Hendry's Newsagents for the sponsorship they have given the club over the years. It was always very much appreciated and again when the Nommy McFarlane Memorial Tournament was played the match balls were donated by them. Myself and all at Brechin Bolag AFC wish them all the best in whatever they do in the future. Thanks again."
Bolag - T. Clark, B. McDonald (K. Rennie), S. Clark, A. Wilson (A. Rosie), G. McFarlane, B. Forbes, D. Lindsay, R. Sellar (L. Middleton), E. Clark, C. Laing and R. McIntosh.
