Wake-up call came too late for Stables
Stables 2, Northern Vaults 7 - Stables played host to Northern Vaults in the League Cup semi final on Sunday.
The visitors had all the early possession, and found themselves one up on twenty minutes after Greg Fleming brought down a Vaults striker inside the box, with the resulting spot kick being duly converted.
Things got worse for the home side five minutes later when another good move saw the visitors go two up.
Jordan McIntosh then received a red card after 30 minutes for a petulant kick at a Vaults defender.
Any hope of a comeback was lost as Vaults added another two before the interval.
Andy Reid and Craig Low were brought on to replace Mike Strachan and Barry Douglas at the break in the vain hope of stemming the tidal wave of Vaults attacks. However the visitors added a fifth on 50 minutes, and then a sixth three minutes later.
Gary Southam was then introduced in place of Ian Ingram.
On the hour mark Vaults scored their seventh of the game. The Brechin side then decided to start playing. Substitute Low having some rampaging runs up the park, with Southam and Fleming enjoying some space up both flanks.
And so it was on 70 minutes when after yet another good move centre half Craig Low found himself one on one with the keeper and coolly rounded him to score a terrific goal. Ten minutes later Greg Fleming added a second. This lifted the home teams spirits, chances fell to Colin Ross who had a lonely shift up front, Fleming also had a couple more chances all to no avail though, and 7-2 was the final score.
Stables do not have long to wait to try and seek revenge for this humiliation as they play host again this week to the Vaults in the quarter final of the Piggins Cup. All players are requested to meet at the Public Park at 9:30am. Training is on Thursday at 6pm at Wards Road.
