Wick buzzing ahead of Academy's biggest game
WICK Academy secretary Alan Farquhar has said his club faces the "biggest game in their history" when Brechin City come to the Highland town on Saturday.
Its the first time in the Highland League club's history they have played in the third round and they are clearly relishing the opportunity of having a go at a league club.
"We are expecting about 1200 of a crowd for the game," said Alan.
"The whole town has been buzzing all week long in anticipation and I think we should have a good cup tie on our hands.
"Basically, we want to give a good account of ourselves and, if we can pull off a shock, all the better.
"People in the Highland League will tell you we are one of the division's best footballing sides. We have never won it, but we are always commended for the manner in which we play.
"The game is a real test for our players. However, our form has been excellent lately and we have been scoring a lot of goals.
"Brechin City are obviously a quality side, however. They wouldn't be at the top end of the second division of the SFL if they weren't and we know we are in for a stiff test.
"Wick will be a highly hospitable place on Saturday. I know some of the local hotels and pubs are expecting a busy day from the extra fans we will have and the travelling supporters from Brechin.
"I just hope we can do ourselves justice. We almost met each other in the Scottish Cup last year, but we let ourselves down badly at Edinburgh City in a replay after a drawn first game and they won the right to face City.
"Our side is a very young one. However, one of the strengths is the fact that a lot of the players have come through our youth set up and have played together from the age of 15 or 16.
"We have no stars, but a lot of good players, many of whom are beginning to make a name for themselves in the Highland League.
"Above all, we are hoping for a memorable day for both sets of fans and a game to remember."
Wick have asked that Brechin City fans make their way to Harmsworth Park as soon as possible on Saturday, to assist them with the greater than usual expected attendance.
"Gates will be open from 2 pm," Alan concluded.
