World darts champ arrows in on Brechin
LAKESIDE World Professional Darts Champion Martin Adams will be guiding his arrows to the board against some of Brechin's finest darts players on Thursday, February 18 when he appears in an exhibition at the Nova Suite.
The world champion, known as "Wolfie", will take on some of the area's finest darts players - and a raffle for the opportunity to compete against him is likely to take place.
Linda Ironside of the Nova Suite said that she expects interest in the event from throughout Angus to be high and advised anyone withing to attend to come forward and book their tickets as soon as possible.
"We had Martin here before he won his world title and, while he was very, very popular then, his popularity and indeed recognition of his abilities has spread considerably since then. He provides great entertainment and has a real rapport with the audiences wherever he attends.
"He has a prize list as long as your arm and is one of the most talented darts players of his generation.
"We are absolutely delighted that he has agreed to come back to Brechin for what promises to be another memorable evening."
Adams has twice won the Lakeside World Professional Championship and has triumphed in the British Pentathlon Championship eight times,. In addition, he has twice won the Winmau Masters championship and is twice world cup singles champion - and that is only a few of his numerous titles in both singles and doubles.
Linda continued: "While we expect a good response from darts players wishing to take Martin on, we also anticipate a great demand from people wishing to pop along and see him in action. After all, it's not every week we have a world champion appearing in the flesh in Brechin.
"Tickets are priced at 10 for the event. The doors will be open at 7 pm, to allow us an opportunity to organise a raffle for competitors who want to take Martin on."
Martin Adams was crowned world champion for the second time in four years, overcoming a huge challenge from twenty something Dave Chisnall seven-five after a 139-minute absorbing encounter last month.
Adams, the oldest man in the tournament at 53, delivered a master class, drawing on 17 appearances in the tournament to topple the his talented 29-year-old opponent and land his second world crown in four years to pocket the 100,000 first prize.
The England skipper from Peterborough hit a 31.67 average, four 180s and five 100 plus checkouts, including a 156 and the week's top finish of 170.
