AS the rain fell on Brechin last week one couple made sure that it didn't put a dampener on their special day as they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Isabella 'Bella' and James Robertson celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at their home, 27B Airlie Street,Brechin, with an influx of flowers and visitors to congratulate them.
The couple met in their late teens at a dance at the Masonic Temple, Brechin, and they were walking up the aisle at the Masondieu Church in 1950, James aged 28 and Isabella aged 22.
The reception was held at the Northern Hotel, Clerk Street, which is of great significance to the couple - as that is also where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and where they were toasting their diamond wedding anniversary.
Isabella started her working life at the Co-operative shoe shop in the High Street, where she had to remember customer sizes in case they ever returned. She later moved on to the Tecalmet factory.
Later in life, she worked at the sports shop, explaining that it was "sometimes more like a hobby than a job."
James, on the other hand, started his working life by learning how to be a grocer at Harry Gordon's in the High Street.
However, he went on to choose a completely different career path, joining the Royal Air Force where he had experience of life in countries such as India, Burma and Malaysia.
On his return to Brechin he worked in the Coventry Gauge and Tool Company.
The couple shared a passion for travelling abroad although, on their first trip, which was to Malta, Isabella was wary of flying.
They have been to locations such as the Isle of Capri and Venice in Italy, but their favourite destination was to Lugano,Switzerland.
They also enjoy watching sport on the telly together, whether it be snooker, darts or rugby - any sport for that matter!
Jim is also a big football fan and used to be a regular visitor to Glebe Park. He is also fond of cricket.
The couple have a daughter June and a grandson Bruce.
Both Isabella and James were born and brought up in Brechin so they have witnessed it change radically from when they were children.
The couple received a telegram from the Queen and one from the Lord Lieutenant of Angus Georgiana Osborne in recognition of their diamond wedding anniversary.
Explaining chalking up 60 years of marriage, Isabella said: "There's no secret, you just have to take it day by day. You always have your ups and downs."
