MEMBERS of Brechin and District Round Table are requesting Brechin clubs, groups, committees, organisations, associations and individuals to attend a Brechin Events meeting on Wednesday, January 27, in the side room of the Caledonian Hotel, Brechin at 7 pm.
Round Table spokesman, John Pearse, said the meeting could play a vital part in helping maintain and even improve events like the Pageant, which, for the Round Table, is getting tougher and tougher to organise, because they have so few members at pr
esent.

John said: "We are asking clubs, groups, individuals and organisations of any shape and make-up to attend this meeting in an attempt to improve communication and co-ordination of city events taking place in 2010.

"It will give them the opportunity to discuss their timetable of events for the year and request any details, help, information, equipment, etc. from other groups in attendance.
"We are looking for a good cross-section of the population to be represented as well, and anybody is invited to attend.

"We are very hopeful of getting a decent turn-out. This meeting is for the benefit of the entire community, regardless of their interests and regardless of whether they are eight or eighty and I hope we can get that reflected in the demographic make-up as well of thos who attend.

"It really is vital that we get a more co-ordinated approach to these things. This isn't something that's just for the Round Table's benefit. We are hopeful that a good turnout and good representation from different groups at this meeting can benefit various parties throughout Brechin and district.

"We will publish an annual timetable of city events with contact details for each which, we hope, will encourage organisations, clubs, groups and individuals to work together, and support each other for the benefit of Brechin as a whole.

"This isn't necessarily about getting volunteers. It may simply be that one organisation may have a piece of equipment that could be beneficial to another for a particular show or event and it makes sense for us all to get together and indeed see if there are any areas of common ground where better communication and simply sitting around the table can produce results.

"We are mindful of the fact that most local groups and organisations in Brechin, as they are elsewhere, are run by volunteers and their time is often at a premium.

"However, we believe, if we get a positive response to this meeting, we can make improvements in they way we assist each other.

"That can only be good for the groups and the individuals who help run those groups, but, above all, it can only be good for Brechin."

A reminder again that the meeting takes place on Wednesday, January 27 in the Caledonian Hotel at 7 pm.
