Angus Arts is gearing up to host the second Be Inspired Glenesk (BIG) event, which offers the chance to get involved in outdoor arts.
The local charity first launched the initiative last month, when they hosted a ‘Big picture, small world’ themed event.
During the day people were invited to sketch the Glenesk landscape, and these pictures where then joined up to make one large landscape - the ‘big picture’.
The ‘small world’ involved making dens and houses for the mysterious little people that inhabit the area.
The BIG project is set to run through to October, with one outdoor art adventure taking place each month.
The next event will take place on Sunday, June 30, and is called ‘Pebbles, water, stone’.
Virginia Aspinwall, co-creative director of Angus Arts, explains what it’s about.
She said: “When you go to the beach what are you looking for? We will go to a beach with sand and stones and rocks … right up Glenesk, many miles from the sea! We’re going to be making sculptures, dams, water engineering, stone gardens and patterns.
“We’ll make small boats which we’ll float downstream. I’m sure people will have plenty more fabulous ideas.”
‘Pebbles, water, stone’ will take place on June 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with participants invited to meet up at The Retreat Visitor Centre in Glenesk before being taken elsewhere.
The event is suitable for everyone of any age and the cost is £8 (under eights must be accompanied).
Packed lunches are available to buy from The Retreat on request.
Further BIG adventures, all of which are made possible by funding from the Angus Council Community Grant Scheme, will take place over the coming months as follows:-
• Sunday, July 7 - ‘Top of the World’ from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, August 11 - ‘Lighter than air’ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m
• Sunday, September 8 - ‘Dens, nest and mysterious marvels’ from 2pm to 4.30pm
• Sunday, October 6 - ‘The biggest picture of all. Grand finale’ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“You don’t have to sign up to all our BIG adventures - though that would be great!” explained Virginia.
“People are free to pick and choose which ones they’d like to attend. Hopefully we’ll be able to tempt you along to at least one.”
