BRAVO set to spread Christmas cheer

On Saturday, November 30, Brechin is set to host the third annual ‘Christmas in the City’ fun day, complete with a special guest in attendance.

STV’s celebrity weatherman Sean Batty will be in the city for much of the afternoon and will visit the many attractions which will be taking place as part of the ‘Christmas in the City’ event.

This year will also see the welcomed return of a Christmas tree to the High Street, following public dismay at its absence last year.

At about 4 p.m. on the day, Sean will have the honour of joining Santa Claus and switching on the lights on the Christmas Tree, which is being kindly donated by Dalhousie Estates and erected by the BRAVO Brechin group.

Much of the events on the day will be taking place on the High Street and in the City Hall a.

The Christmas fun starts at 10 a.m., with the welcome return of the Angus Farmers’ Market, which will again be situated in Church Street.

A stage will be in place in the High Street, featuring a number of different entertainers – including local school and church choirs, the Brechin Brass Band, Brechin High School Bands and other local musicians.

A spokesman for the BRAVO group said: “The stage will also host two showings of a special ‘mini Pantomime’ presented by members of the Brechin Panto Group.

“This specially-written show will feature a number of characters including the gorgeous Dame Mary Christmas. This really can not be missed!”

Santa Claus will also be in attendance, and he will be found in his grotto situated within the Town House Museum between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

A number of other events will also be taking place throughout the town centre on the day.

The City Hall will host a coffee morning, as well as selling soup and crepes.

It will also be the venue for a ‘Pop-Up Craft Sale’ between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., as well as floral art demonstrations throughout the day.

There will also be a wide range activities on the street during the day, with face painting and street entertainers will also be around to amuse families.

The spokesperson added: “Brechin’s ‘Christmas in the City 2013’ is set to provide an festive family day out. Join in the fun, and let’s put the heart back in the City of Brechin.”
