Brechin boy (9) set to join Scottish Ballet

Brechin’s very own ‘Billy Elliot’ is all set to become a leading light in the competitive world of ballet.

Vincent Ewart (9), a pupil at Maisondieu Primary, has been accepted into the Scottish Ballet.

His proud dad, Allan said that Vincent had passed his audition at the Scottish Ballet in Glasgow this month. This means that Vincent will now be joining the junior associates programme from September.

Earlier this year, he performed at Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre when he passed an audition for a part in ‘Rapunzel’, beating 60 young dancers to gain his role. He was the only male child ballet dancer given a part. More recently, he performed in the ‘Strictly Come Dancing Show ‘in the Webster Memorial Theatre in Arbroath.

He is a pupil of Beryl Coupar at the Esk Academy of Dance in Montrose but dancing is in his blood as his mum Iryna is a former dancer. Vincent also plays violin and piano and is in the school drama group and choir.
