Brechin’s cartie race capers brighten up a wet day

Despite the wet weather on Saturday, Brechin’s Halloween in the City Cartie Race entertained crowds who flocked to the City.

It wasn’t just carties that pulled the crowds - this year’s event saw the inclusion of the Angus Farmers’ Market on Church Street and live entertainment and carnival at the Brechin Leisure Centre.

During the day 54 drivers completed the track with results from the event as follows (Driver name, cart name, team name, fastest time):-

16+ Pro - 1, Paul Janson, Naecost, Team Rocket, 0.58 minutes; 2, Andy Ash, CB 009, Centa Bavaria, 1.04 minutes; 3, Gerry Quinn, Stacey, Where’s Me Spanners, 1.05 minutes.

Side car - 1, James Allan Hay/Rachel Natanson, Toxic, Toxic, 1.07 minutes; 2, Ian Ritchie/Grant McInstosh, Sidedrum Sidecar, City of Brechin Pipeband, 1.15 minutes.

16+ Novice - 1, Arthur Gibson, The Flying Roofbox, Duncan McIntosh Trailers Racing (1), 1.08 minutes; Stewart Ferguson, Tayside Tornado, Tayside Cycles, 1.10 minutes; 3, Allan Donaldson, The Flying Roofbox, Duncan McIntosh Trailers Racing (1), 1.10 minutes.

12 to 15 years - 1, Alistair Naismith, The Speed Machine, The Whizz Kidz, 1.28 minutes; 2, George Thomson, The Speed Machine, The Whizz Kidz, 1.30 minutes, 3, Cameron Low, Hedzup 1, Hedzup, 1.45 minutes.

The award for the best Hallowe’en themed cartie went to Brian McLaughlin for Grave Mistakes. Best engineered cartie was awarded to Crosshill Flyers. Most entrenching team was judged to be Brechin Fire Station.
