Brechin is one of a number of Angus communities that will get to welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay in the build-up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The baton will pass through Monifieth, Carnoustie, East Haven, Arbroath, Forfar, Glamis, Kirriemuir, Northmuir, Brechin and Montrose on Saturday, June 28, as part of its journey around Scotland ending in Glasgow on July 23.
Speaking at the announcement, chair of the Angus Games Steering Group, councillor Jeanette Gaul said: “Everyone loves the Queen’s Baton Relay and like a lot of people, I have been following the baton as it makes its way across the Commonwealth.
“With 128 days until the Games begin, we’re getting ready to welcome the athletes and spectators to Angus. The party will be getting started in Angus with the arrival of the baton on Saturday, June 28, and I know there will be a warm welcome from Angus residents to the local heroes who will carry the baton.
“There is still time for local groups to apply for Celebrate funding if they want to hold an event before or during the 2014 Games. It would be excellent to keep this momentum building over the coming months and I encourage local groups to come forward with their ideas for activities.”
