As the popularity of the ‘in the City’ days grows so does their cost, leaving organisers looking for sponsors to help fund future events.
BRAVO Brechin, the group of businesses, retailers and volunteers who aim to ‘put the heart back into Brechin’ are already planning this year’s bigger and better Halloween cartie race in the City which will take place on Saturday, October 19.
This year’s Harley Davidson in the City cost around £10,000, with £5,000 being generously donated by the Angus Council Event Fund. However, £5,000 had to be raised from other sources.
In future events local authority funding may not be available.
Thanks to the help of many local businesses who gave their time and services for free, potential costs were removed from the final bill.
Bravo chairman, Bill Sturrock, said: “It was very encouraging that some of the businesses that benefited directly from the influx of visitors have generously contributed a portion of their takings on the day back to organisers to help offset the large costs that were incurred, with Rosie’s Bakehouse, the Swan Indian Restaurant and the Lodge St. Ninians 66 all donating a percentage of their profits from the day.”
“The aim of BRAVO is to encourage everyone in the city, be it businesses or individuals, to work together and grow the community spirit and optimism that has developed since the “in the City” events started almost two years ago.”
It was hoped that each of the groups events would become self funding but the larger events such as the Harley Davidson in the City and the Halloween Cartie Race do put a strain on BRAVO’s finances.
The group is always willing to discuss sponsorship opportunities from any interested businesses or individuals. Anyone interested in sponsoring an event should call local community planning officer Sandra Livingston on 01356 627443.
