Brechin City’s Supporters’ Club is to host what is hoped will be an evening of fun and celebration on Saturday, April 27, - in the form of a comedy cabaret performance which will run alongside the Football Club’s players awards presentations in the City Hall, Brechin.

The idea came about when supporters club committee member Drew Borland met a former Brechin High School teacher, Bruce Fummey. They chatted about various things including what the other was doing with their lives at present. It transpired that Bruce was now running a successful comedy company called ‘Just Laugh Comedy Club’.

Just Laugh clubs are run and compered by Bruce himself. He started Just Laugh in September 2004 and in March 2005 extended the club to three major towns. Now, as well as regular monthly clubs, they bring one off shows to towns across Scotland.

This chance meeting was remembered by Drew when the club were discussing new fund-raising ideas and the rest, as they say, is history.

The evening will consist of performances from three experienced circuit comedians - Gary Little, Stu Who and Chris Conroy. Bruce Fummey will compere the events.

The players’ awards will, of course, play a big part in the evening. This will be a chance for the fans to meet the players and reward them for their efforts over the season.

With a place in the play-offs virtually secured, this will be a great morale booster for the players, knowing that their efforts are really appreciated.

There will also be a fund-raising auction, with various items of footballing interest and memorabilia up for grabs. A buffet meal will be served courtesy of the Stables Lounge and there will be a bar available, kindly supplied by the football club themselves.

It was originally intended to hold the event solely as a fund-raiser for the supporters’ club, but after discussions with the club’s management committee, it was agreed that this would be a novel event to run alongside the players’ awards presentation.

A supporters’ club spokesman said: “When the idea came to us, there was a very positive reaction.

“We knew the club were thinking of something a little different for the end of season awards and they were very happy with the idea of linking the two events.

“We are very fortunate to have secured entertainment of this calibre for Brechin as their very busy schedule sees the comedians perform not only in Scotland but at various venues across the world. We only hope the people of Brechin turn out to support this event. Thanks also to the various sponsors for their help and contributions.”

The evening starts at 7.30 p.m., and entry will be by ticket only. Tickets are now on sale and are modestly priced at only £20 each.

These can be obtained through any supporters club member and are also available from the Brechin Advertiser Office in Swan Street or the Supporters Club Shop at Glebe Park.

There is limited availability so it would be advised to act quickly to avoid missing out on a great night’s entertainment.
