THE first exhibition for 2012 at The Meffan in Forfar opened last Saturday featuring the work of Glasgow-based artist Sam Cartman.
Entitled Of the Land, it features Sam’s new work which are a response to being in the landscape and are shaped by the experience of being in a certain place at a certain time.
His ideas for work are shaped image and composition, his subject matter starts as a personal choice from simply looking at his environment.
These experiences are the basis for his paintings, whether it is the landscape of Shropshire, Cumbria or, more recently, the urban environment of Glasgow and the landscapes of the West Coast.
The exhibition runs until Saturday, February 4, admission free. The Meffan is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.
