Plans for the Brechin Retailers’ “Hallowe’en in City” event are ramping up as the date draws closer.
The event, which features the cartie race down the High Street and a Monster Ball in the City Club is set to take place on Saturday, October 27.
In the run up to the cartie race, a Scrutinising Day will be held on Sunday (October 21) in the over spill car park at Maisondieu Primary School. This will allow officials to check that carties taking part in the race meet the safety requirements.
At the time of going to press there have been 19 confirmed participants for the race. The participants will compete in four race categories, which are under-16s traditional, under-16s novice, over-16s professional and over-16 novice.
Prizes will be given to the fastest racer in each category, with prizes also being given to carties with the best design, the best Halloween theme and the most entertaining theme.
The Monster Ball, which takes place on the evening of Saturday, October 27, is to be held in the City Club on Southesk Street. Tickets are on sale for the event and cost £20 each. These can be purchased from Brymers Butchers, Turriffs and Rosie’s Bakehouse.
Organisers are also looking for volunteers to help out during the cartie race. They need volunteers to: be crowd marshals; be parking marshals; hand out safety information to spectators; staff the tea and coffee stall; layout pedestrian barriers and straw bales; put out pedestrian signs; put out traffic signs and direct traffic.
All volunteers will be given a free tea/coffee and burger at lunch time for their help.
Setting up is scheduled to start around 8am. All volunteers will be warmly welcomed.
