THE STRONG connections between Scottish and Polish cultures is being celebrated at an art exhibition which will run this month at Kinblethmont Gallery, near Arbroath.

The all-Polish free exhibition runs from May 11 to 26 and will feature the work of Aleksander Zyw.

It will also feature Paul Reid’s photographs of Polish art from the old Marine Ballroom, Arbroath.

Gallery owner Robert Ramsay said: “We have strong connections at Kinblethmont with the Polish, going back to World War Two when a number of Polish officers were billeted here.

“A Major Sreniawa-Borzyslawski escaped from Poland with his wife early in the war but they became separated and eventually she ended up as a refugee at Kinblethmont, understandably distressed.”

The couple were reunited in Edinburgh and had a son called Angus in honour of the county of his conception.

The exhibition will open from 2 to 5 p.m. on the first Saturday, and then from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
