THIS FRIDAY National Dance Company Wales visits Dundee Rep Theatre on its 30th birthday tour with a spellbinding triple bill of exhilarating dance to fall in love with, from a trio of award-winning choreographers.
NDC Wales was launched as Diversions in Cardiff in 1983 by dancers and choreographers Roy Campbell-Moore and Ann Sholem; the company was awarded national status in 1999 and became National Dance Company Wales. NDC Wales tours internationally and performs a repertory of contemporary dance created by established choreographers of repute; the captivating spring programme celebrates our journey from a fresh and emerging dance company to an internationally-recognised and exciting name in contemporary dance.
The three pieces which will be performed on May 3 are Dream by Christopher Bruce, Noces by Angelin Preljocaj and Virtual Descent by Eleesha Drennan. The acclaimed Dream is a breathtaking celebration of the excellence and achievement of Britain in its Olympic year. It has received standing ovations from London to Shanghai, and Cardiff to Llandudno as audiences have been swept away by dance that rejoices in the sheer exuberance of physical movement. Exploring the fantasy and ritual of weddings, Noces is an astonishing spectacle of dynamic movement and evocative costumes performed to Igor Stravinsky’s exquisite score, Les Noces. Award-winning Company dancer and House Choreographer Eleesha Drennan presents her latest work with a recording of a newly-commissioned percussion concerto from BBC National Orchestra of Wales’ resident composer Mark Bowden.
