A fund-raising night has raised £660 for Goodwill and Growth Africa (GAGA).
Irene Gilles and Cheryl Birse organised the fundraising night, with entertainment from the Gilbert and Sulliven Society from St Andrews University, who were on their annual visit to Burn House.
Irene said: “There were 35 people who entertained on the night and they appeared to be having a wonderful weekend.
“Once more they hosted a concert of songs from many of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas to help support Goodwill and Growth Africa.
“The young people seemed to enjoy the concert as much as we did.
“Cheryl and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and for offering to donate the money raised for the pre-school in Cato Ridge, South Africa.
“We would also like to thank David and his staff at the Burn and their hospitality.
“A big thanks also to those who donated gifts for the raffle,
This money was added to the £811.40 which was raised on Burns night giving a total raised for GAGA of £1471.40.
Irene said: “The money raised will be a magnificant start for the upgrading of the pre-school and hopefully allow 100 children to have a reasonable start to their education.
“These children are South Africa’s future. Education is not like it is here and I am sure only the strong manage to succeed. Class sizes are over 70 children and limited materials make learning very difficult.
“Can I convey my grateful thanks to all those who supported the evening?”
