The Retreat, Glenesk is well-known as a place to hear good music of all kinds.

On Sunday April 15 - Open Day at the Retreat and Glenesk Folk Museum - there is a chance to hear inspiring Angus based group, The Cache.

“We are having a Retreat Open Day on Sunday, April 15”, explained Anna Robson, manager of the community-owned and run folk museum and visitor centre.

“There will be something for everyone including free entry to the museum and the music, plus a tea and scone for the reduced price of £2.”

The Retreat will be open from 12 pm to 6 pm and The Cache will be playing from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Musicians Karen Hannah on fiddle, Davey Ewan on fiddle and button accordion, with guitarist Roy Henderson and Nigel Jelks on mandoline, concertina and fiddle, make up this popular Angus based group.

“We’ll be presenting a great variety of fiddle tunes, from the nineteenth century to the best of new music out today,” said Nigel.

“So people will be able to enjoy strathspeys, reels, jigs, marches, airs and some fine songs from Roy on guitar.

“We always enjoy playing at The Retreat and we are all looking forward to a great afternoon on April 15”.

The Glenesk Folk Museum engages all ages with its unique and much loved artefacts telling so many fascinating stories about glen life together with its replica children’s clothes and games for dressing up and play.

Meanwhile, the restaurant offers fine home cooked meals and the gift shop offers a wide range of Scottish crafts and books, while outside offers beautiful views across the glen from the nature trail and children’s play area.

The Retreat is open weekends only, plus bank holidays, until May 14 when it will open daily until the end of October.

“We have a wonderful season of events ahead, including fabulous egg painting and rolling, face painting and other Easter fun on April 8, Easter Sunday,” added Anna.

Then on May Day Monday, May 7 we have Angus Arts with a drop in day of activities called ‘Bunting and Bunnets, Buns and Balmoral’ and on Saturday May 19 we have fun and games in the museum with ‘Eye Spy in The Museum’.

“Sunday April 15 is a great chance for people to come and visit us and see all we have to offer for the whole season.

“Please do phone 01356 648 070 at any time with any enquiries or to book a table in the restaurant.”
