Pipe band ends season on a high

The City of Brechin Pipe Band’s, Grade three band, came away from the Cowal highland gathering on a high, lifting the Benmore shield for fifth place.

This is the last contest for the Grade three band this season.

A spokesperson for the band said: “The street parade was great it lasted around three hours from start to finish.”

Thousands of people from across the world gathered in Dunoon for the finale of the celebrated Cowal Highland Gathering

“This was the last Cowal games for a major contest,” they continued.

“Next year it will be just like a normal games.

“The major contest will be held in Ireland and will be known as the UK Championships, so Belfast is on the cards for June 14, 2014.

“We will need to raise a lot of funds to get there.

“The bus will cost in the range of £3,000 plus there will be accommodation, so if you see us fund raising every little helps.”

The band are holding a concert on September 21, featuring the Grade 1 Scottish Power Pipe Band. For more information see page 23.

The pipe band will be holding their annual solo competition at Brechin High School on Saturday, October 5.
