A rich programme of masterclasses at Hospitalfield in Arbroath is drawing interest from all over the country.
Scores of subscribers have already signed up to classes ranging from portrait painting and photography to landscape design, poetry and printmaking.
The programme is also building on Hospitalfield’s reputation in the jazz world by introducing first class tuition in jazz guitar, jazz voice and blues guitar.
“This is Hospitalfield’s most ambitious masterclass programme to date and we have been truly delighted with the positive response so far” said Masterclass co-ordinator Rebecca Westguard.
“There is no doubt Hospitalfield continues to be a very special attraction, an inspirational environment and of course we have practising artists offering tuition of the highest calibre. One of our clients has just signed up to his fifth masterclass whilst others are joining us from as far away as Devon.”
The season kicks off on March 16 to 18 with a weekend life drawing masterclass with award winning figurative artist Ian Cook RI, RSW who will be using professional models in a series of structured poses to develop cubist, surreal and abstract expression with an emphasis on academic and figurative techniques. A few places are still available.
Hospitalfield is home to scores of portraits – many dating back to the 19th century so it is fitting that award winning portrait painter Jennifer Mcrae RSA delivers a five day portrait painting masterclass during her residency at Hospitalfield in July – an unparalleled opportunity for students.
In August Hospitalfield alumnus and winner of the 2010 Aspect and Threadneedle prizes, Patricia Cain will join artist Sam Cartman to share advice on working practices, methods and materials.
This five day course gives hands-on practical experience across topics including canvases, pallets, brushes, framing and paper.
