THE appearance of The Old Blind Dogs at the Links Hotel next Tuesday evening will be one of the highlights of the current season at Montrose Folk Club.
Dynamic percussion, polished vocals, soaring fiddle and stirring pipes fuel the trademark melodies and songs of the legendary Old Blind Dogs.
Since their formation in the early nineties, The Old Blind Dogs have stood on the cutting edge of Scotland’s Roots Revival. The band has developed its own trademark style with an energetic mix of songs and tunes.
A strong shared, musical vision has allowed the band to ride out inevitable line-up changes. The only original member still with the band is Jonny Hardie on fiddle, guitar and vocals. The other current members are Aaron Jones on bouzouki, guitar and vocals, Ali Hutton, on border pipes, whistles and vocals and Fraser Stone on drums and percussion.
Over the years, The Old Blind Dogs have released ten albums. They have also won numerous awards including the prestigious title of Folk Band of the Year at the 2004 and 2007 Scottish Trad Music Awards.
The most recent CD released by The Old Blind Dogs entitled ‘Four on the Floor’ takes the band bravely in many new directions. This album has received the IAP Award for Best Celtic CD.
Everyone is welcome at Montrose Folk Club on Tuesday, August 28, for what is certain to be a great night of Scottish music. The doors at the Links Hotel will be open at 7.30 p.m. with The Old Blind Dogs on stage at 8 p.m.
