Brechin Neighbourhood Watch scheme to end

The decision to wind up the group was taken at its October meeting. A lack of members is making it impossible for it to function.

Brechin’s Neighbourhood Watch scheme is being wound up due to a lack of members.

In a letter to Angus County Press this week, secretary Dorothy Black said that the current situation with membership has made it impossible to continue the group.

The decision to dissolve the NHW was taken at the October meeting.

She did, however, express a wish that the people of Brechin will continue to actively work with Police Scotland in the town and thanked the force for its support over the years.

She said: “We have reached the stage that we are no longer able to continue due to lack of members.

“I want to say how much I have appreciated the support we have received over the years especially from the Police, Trading Standards, the present committee members as well as the former members and the public.

“I hope the people of Brechin will continue to support our Police.

“We know since the merging of all the forces to become Police Scotland has created cuts to the services and damaged the morale of the force.

“Let’s hope manpower will be increased and the hierarchy of Police Scotland will listen to those serving in the local community.”
