Montrose Football Club’s women’s team are being backed by some high profile names as they prepare for the biggest match in their history this weekend.

The side is gearing up towards a SWF Championship Cup final appearance against Dryburgh Athletic, the club’s first ever national final.

Craig Feroz’s team are in excellent form in their Scottish Women's Championship North campaign and they’ll look to take that momentum into Sunday’s match, which will be played at the Falkirk Stadium.

Of the nine games they’ve played so far in the league, they’ve won them all, scoring an incredible 62 goals and conceding a measly five.

An early season cup win would certainly be an excellent reward for the performances put in by the side so far this competitive campaign.

Sunday’s opponents will be well known to Mo.

Dryburgh Athletic play in the same division and sit just a few places below them in the division.

The two met on October 31 at Links Park, Montrose hitting seven without reply against Sunday’s cup final opponents.

Excitement is building for the match, and in the run-up to it the club has been receiving well wishes from big names.

Amongst them is former Rangers and Scotland manager Alex McLeish who sent a message to Feroz and his players, saying: “As you know, Craig, performance level is key.

"Play to your best level and I’m sure you will triumph.”

McLeish’s message is set to be the first of a few posted on the club's social media channels as the week goes on.

It’s been a relatively uncomplicated run to the cup final for Montrose who have been dominant throughout the campaign.

The crusade started with an away fixture at Gleniffer Thistle, the Angus side running out 19-0 winners.

Then came a more tricky second round match at East Fife, but Feroz’s side did enough to secure a safe passage thanks to a 3-1 victory away from home.

In the quarter-final Montrose were again on their travels, this time making the journey to Rossvale.

The hosts had no answers to the Angus side's qualities, Montrose comfortable 4-0 winners.

And an ominous warning was sent out to Sunday’s cup-final opponents in the semis where Montrose were again absolutely ruthless in front of goal, beating Edinburgh Caledonia 10-1.

Dryburgh booked their place thanks to a 1-0 win over Ayr United.

It all set things up nicely for this weekend's showpiece game.

The SWF Championship Cup final will be played at the Falkirk Stadium on Sunday with kick off scheduled for 2pm.

The game is open to supporters and entry is £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.

Montrose go into the game on the back of another convincing victory at the weekend.

Buchan were the visitors to Links Park and had few answers to their hosts.

There were no dramas at all as Montrose cruised to a 6-1 victory.
