We could have won six goal thriller, says Dick Campbell

Dick Campbell watched his Arbroath side refuse to accept defeat to Raith Rovers by coming from 3-1 down in the final stages of the game.

The Lichties boss believes his side could have actually taken all three points from a remarkable match where they hit the lead with just a minute on the clock.

Raith managed to equalise and then go ahead before Ethon Varian handed them a two goal cushion with 25 minutes left.

But Campbell’s side showed their fighting spirit and goals from Dale Hilson and Michael McKenna ensured a deserved point.

Campbell said: “We started the game really well and that’s a good sign that you’ve prepared well.

"In fairness to Raith Rovers they probably deserved to get something out of the game.

"We scored early doors and then for 25 minutes after that it was just waves of attacks.

"Our goalie never touched the ball but, when he did, he let them into the game.

"Calum (Antell) has put his hands up and said he could have done better.

"I got in about them at half-time when we were 1-1 and we started the second-half really well.

"We were pumping down either side with our full-backs and then they scored on a breakaway.

"We didn’t defend properly and didn’t match the runs.

"Then we’re looking for a penalty kick up the other end and then their boy kicks it up.

"My left back and centre half both go for it but we let their forward throw it inside and then there’s a good finish.

"But we could have won it in the end.”
